Alexander Skarsgard Talks "True Blood" Character
He attended the Los Angeles premiere of his hit HBO show on Tuesday night (June 21), and Alexander Skarsgard revealed some juicy details about the upcoming season of ?True Blood.?
Of his vampire sheriff character on the show, the Swedish actor dished, ?It?s a completely different side of Eric. He doesn?t know who he is so all that baggage is gone ? 1,000 years of resentment and bitterness, the whole loathing humanity kind of stuff is gone.?
?But there has to be an element of danger there still. I didn?t want him to become too much of a little puppy?. I don?t think it would be fun to watch him for very long if he was completely emasculated.?
In other career news for Skarsgard, he is set to star in Peter Berg?s ?Battleship and Meloncholia? alongside Kirsten Dunst.

Justin Bieber's Grammy Performance Will Be 'A Crossover,' Usher Says
The 'O.M.G.' singer looks forward to sharing the stage with his protégé on Sunday night.

HOLLYWOOD — At Sunday's 53rd Grammy Awards, Usher will be pulling double duty as both a nominee and a performer. Of course, given the massive year he just completed — with the success of his smash single "O.M.G." and as a mentor to rising phenom Justin Bieber — Ush's Grammy plans seem rather fitting.
Especially since he'll be performing with Bieber (and Bieber's pal Jaden Smith), a move that's just as much about celebrating Usher's successes as it is the successes of his young protégé.
"Having been through [the Grammys] so many times, you couldn't want for anything more than for your young protégé to have the opportunity to have one, so, in support of him having his moment, I wanted to be here," Usher told MTV News on Thursday, hours before his performance at the (Belvedere) RED launch party in Hollywood. "And also to be there to perform, to kind of tell the story of how we came together. This music business has definitely been good to both of us, and this year we have a lot to be happy for."
And just how will the dynamic duo tell that story? Well, Usher wasn't about to reveal all the details, but he did say that he's hoping their performance will show another side of Bieber ... a side most tend to overlook.
"The performance will be fun," Usher explained. "We want to get up there and just do what we do. Be comfortable, and have a great time. ... This is kind of a crossover for Justin. Having performed on so many different stages, this is the way that I wanted him to be seen and an opportunity to show the industry — a lot of the industry, that didn't believe [in him] — some of his other talents. He's going to play acoustically, and also, we'll get down a little bit."
And though Ush is up for a pair of Grammy awards on Sunday — Best Male R&B Vocal Performance and Best Contemporary R&B Album for Raymond v. Raymond — he's most looking forward to sharing the stage with Bieber and giving fans a look at where the young artist will be heading next.
"I'm very proud, man. I definitely saw it from the beginning, but thanks to the team that we have around us, it was made to happen. And that story has only just begun," Usher said. "The story of Justin Bieber doesn't stop with screaming girls; we need screaming fans all around the world ... a cultural experience that's much more than just fanfare. And that's what this is. That's what the Grammys will be; that's what my next phase for Justin is. This is the way I found him: I found him with a guitar in his hand, so I want him to be seen that way."
Don't miss "Snooki & Sway: Live From the Grammys," a red-carpet live stream kicking off Sunday at 6 p.m. ET on MTV.com. And stick with us all Grammy night for coverage of the red carpet, the show, the afterparties and beyond!

Justin Bieber Vintage Video: His First Meeting With Usher
Justin Timberlake also wanted to sign Bieber, 'Never Say Never' star said in 2009.

Just as the world was learning who Justin Bieber was, MTV News caught up with the shaggy-haired singer in September 2009. He was gearing up to release his debut album, My World, and plotting his pop-world domination. In the year and a half since that interview, Bieber has done the nearly impossible, launching himself into the pop mega-sphere.
In the chat, Bieber recalled how he and his manager, Scooter Braun, met and eventually got big names interested in signing the teen.
"My manager found me on YouTube. He flew me out to Atlanta for the first time — I'd never actually been on a plane before. He flew me to Atlanta where i was going to the studio to meet some people," he recalled.
"And Usher happened to roll up in his Range Rover. I ran up to him, and I was like, 'Usher, I love your songs. Want me to sing you one?' The politest possible way he could say no, he did. ... I took the hint. I didn't get to sing for him: He had to run into a studio session."
But later, Usher was beckoning the teen back to the ATL. "He actually watched my videos — after my manager got to talking to him — and was like, 'I should have let this kid sing,' and flew me back to Atlanta where I got to sing for him in a proper setting. A week later, I had a meeting with Justin Timberlake, who also wanted to sign me, so they both kind of wanted me."
As the story goes, Bieber went with Usher, and the two never looked back.
"As far as Usher being my mentor, he's definitely given me words of wisdom. I hear it from everybody, but definitely to hear it from Usher is great, just to stay humble and grounded is very important," he explained.
"There's a lot of people, especially young stars, that have gone down the wrong path, and I definitely plan to stay humble and stay grounded and keep my family first, because that stuff really is important in life."
On Friday, Justin Bieber's 3-D documentary, "Never Say Never," opens. The film takes a look at how the teen star worked to hit it big. MTV News has been chatting with him along the way, from the time he first burst on the scene in 2009 until now, as he embarks on a huge 2011 that will include a tour and more new music.

'Game Of Thrones': What's Next For Dany And Her Dragons?
'You see the relationship that Dany has with her eggs, and you see that grow and grow,' Emilia Clarke tells MTV News of 'Fire and Blood' reveal.
By Kara Warner

For the "Game of Thrones" fans out there who thought this season's shock and awe would culminate with the "heroic" death of beloved Ned Stark (and departure of equally well-liked actor Sean Bean, for that matter), you might be rethinking that stance after watching Sunday night's epic season finale.
For those who haven't yet watched "Fire and Blood" (or read George R.R. Martin's brilliant books on which the series is based), do not read any further. Major spoilers ahead!
Once again, there was a lot going on in the episode, too much to address fully with one story. But the big reveal of the evening was all about that final scene with Daenerys Targaryen and the fiery reveal of her "children," i.e. three baby dragons.
Talk about cliffhangers. So now what? What can fans expect in the future from Dany and the three future fire-breathers? MTV News asked actress Emilia Clarke for some inside scoop on what she knows about what will happen next for her character.
"I have had a dialogue with George [R.R. Martin], so kind of all of the things that I've been inquisitive about he's sort of answered in a way," Clarke said of having already gleaned a lot of top-secret info from her character's creator. "There's this wicked thing that he kind of hinted about," she teased, stopping herself short from revealing too much. "Just the stuff that he's saying, it just goes from awesome to awesome," Clarke said about Dany's future. "It doesn't get bad with her. It just gets so much better, so much more exciting."
With regard to the dragons, Clarke reflected back on how that story line is expertly teased throughout the season, ahead of the finale's big reveal.
"You see the relationship that Dany has with her eggs, and you see that grow and grow and grow and kind of the intuitive connection she has with them, you see that develop really beautifully," she explained. "And then the end is the end," she said with a knowing smile, speaking to that crazy final shot of her with her dragons, surrounded by flame. "That [was] pretty awesome too."
Clarke added that she hopes the second season will be equally awesome as the first. "I get to play with some more dragons!" she said.

Michael Jackson Doctor Pleads Not Guilty To Involuntary Manslaughter
Conrad Murray's trial slated to start March 28.

Michael Jackson's former personal physician Dr. Conrad Murray entered a plea of not guilty to charges of involuntary manslaughter in the June 2009 death of the pop star at his arraignment on Tuesday morning (January 25).
According to the Los Angeles Times, when asked by judge Michael Pastor how he pleaded to the charge, Murray said, "Your honor, I am an innocent man." When Pastor interrupted and asked Murray what his plea was, the cardiologist said, "Therefore, I plead not guilty."
The brief hearing in Los Angeles Superior Court ended with Pastor setting a March 28 date for the start of a trial in the case. Murray faces a maximum of four years in prison if convicted, and the Times noted that he surprised the judge by invoking his right to a speedy trial, which meant the case would have to begin by late March. Pastor noted the rarity of a defendant asking to have a speedy trial, then set jury selection for the week of March 28 and said he was inclined to allow television coverage of the trial that the defense expects will last two months.
Lawyers for Murray have maintained his innocence all along, saying he did not do anything that "should have" caused the 50-year-old pop icon's death. The Los Angeles County Coroner's office determined that Jackson died of an overdose of the surgical anesthetic propofol mixed with a cocktail of other sedatives.
Murray has admitted to administering propofol to Jackson in the hours before the singer's death, but the defense appears to be gearing up to claim that it was Jackson who administered the final, fatal dose of the drug after he woke in a panic from a fitful night of sleep.
During a preliminary hearing earlier this month to determine if there was enough evidence to hold Murray over for trial, the physician's attorneys said that there was evidence Jackson injected or drank a fatal amount of the drug when the doctor was not looking.

Ever since they were first announced, the O Music Awards have proudly proclaimed themselves the untraditional alternative to the staid world of red carpets, acceptance speeches and celebrity glad-handing.
And for further proof of that point, consider the following: Though the inaugural O Music Awards won't premiere until April 28, the first award will be handed out on Monday at 4 p.m. ET ... and it's a big one.
For weeks, fans have been voting for the Most Innovative Music Video through the O Music Awards official site, and on Monday — in a roundtable debate moderated by MTV News' James Montgomery — a winner will be crowned.
The O Music Awards Debate for the Most Innovative Music Video, presented by FUZE®, will stream live on OMusicAwards.com and MTV.com. Joining Montgomery around the table will be acclaimed video director Wayne Isham, Mashable's Brenna Ehrlich and some super-secret celebrity guests.
The Black Eyed Peas, Ke$ha, My Chemical Romance and more will also take part in the discussion about just what makes a video truly innovative, and the folks who are nominated for the award — a list that includes Arcade Fire, Robyn, OK Go and Andy Grammer — will also Skype in to make the case for why their video deserves to be named Most Innovative.
On Monday morning, the original list of 10 nominees will be whittled down to the top five vote-getters, and then, during the debate, our roundtable and the Internet audience will cut that list down to the final three. At the very end, we'll announce the winner of the very first O Music Award for Most Innovative Video.
The inaugural O Music Awards will stream live from Las Vegas at 11 p.m. ET/8 p.m. PT on OMusicAwards.com. Tune in to see who will reign supreme in categories like Most Viral Dance, Funniest Music Short and NSFW Music Video!

A Few Reasons Why He Won't Call You Back
It's happened to the best of us. We go on two or three seemingly perfect dates with the guy we've been obsessing over for the longest time, and then…nothing. No phone call, no texts, no anything! All communication ceases, and we're left wondering what the hell happened? Automatically we switch into it-must-be-my-fault mode. "Was there something in my teeth?" "Maybe he didn't like what I was wearing?" "Is it because I ate like a slob at dinner?" "Am I a bad kisser?"
Then we turn to our best friend for advice, and of course she proceeds to ask you the very same questions you asked yourself. As the cycle of self-incrimination continues, we realize we've taken the guessing game way too far, far to a point where we almost don't even remember what the guy in question even looks like anymore.
Then one day, I got sick and tired of the blame game and decided to come up with my own reasons for why guys don't call us back. Read more…

DO-GOODERS: Dwyane Wade Gets Awarded For Being A Great Dad+Mya & DMC Rock With NOH8
Dwyane Wade may have lost the 2011 NBA championship, but he's receiving one of the most important awards of his life.
Deets on D-Wade nabbing a Fatherhood Award from the National Fatherhood Initiative, plus Mya and DMC showing off their NOH8 pics and pushing for equality in Hip-Hop, when you read on....
Miami Heat star Dwyane Wade was recently awarded full custody of his 2 young sons, Zaire and Zion. And he's been making a point to set the example for how a full time dad should be.
The National Fatherhood Initiative (NFI) has named Dwyane Wade a recipient of a 2011 Fatherhood Award™ for his dedication to his two sons.
“This Fatherhood Award™ reflects Dwyane’s commitment to being the kind of dad his sons need him to be. He gives dads everywhere a great example of what it means to be an involved, responsible, and committed father,” Roland C. Warren, president of NFI said.
And the 2010 All-Star MVP D-Wade, who recently poured out his heart about fatherhood, is pretty pleased as well, stating:
“I am so thrilled to be given this award, especially because it is in recognition of most important thing in my life, my kids. Nothing in the world compares to the happiness that they bring me each and every day.”
“I know that my biggest responsibility is to be there for them 100% and to demonstrate to other fathers that it is possible to be a strong male figure in your children’s lives regardless of what else is going on in your life.”
Congrats.
By the way, with Father's Day coming up this Sunday, President Obama is urging ALL dads to join in on his National Fatherhood & Mentor Initiative that he started once entering office two years ago. Dwyane Wade was named by President O as a representative for this as well.
The Mentoring Initiative is working to promote simple, yet meaningful, opportunities for dads and kids to connect through partnerships with organizations like bowling centers, sports leagues, zoos and aquariums and companies like LivingSocial and Groupon. Yesterday, the President hosted military fathers and their children for a screening of Cars 2 from Disney•Pixar at the White House. Check out the Initiative's site, plus the above uber cute PSA for the cause.
In other Do-Gooder news, Mya and DMC are making it known they believe in equality everywhere...including in hip-hop. Here's their new pics they just shot for the popular grassroots campaign, NOH8 (No Hate):

'X-Men: First Class' Stars Say Their Heroes 'Feel Like Real People'
James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender tell MTV News that the mutants' struggle is a 'universal theme.'
By Kara Warner, with reporting by Eric Ditzian

In a summer-movie season filled with caped crusaders, hammer-wielders and other assorted superheroes, a casual filmgoer might have trouble separating the mutants from future Avengers and all the complicated mythologies and story lines that follow.
When MTV News sat down with Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy recently to talk all things "X-Men: First Class," we asked them to explain what separates their characters — Erik Lehnsherr/ Magneto and Charles Xavier/ Professor X, respectively — from the rest of the summer's superpowered pack.
"Well, it's not in 3-D, that's a start," Fassbender said.
"It's not in 3-D, thank the heavens," McAvoy agreed. "I think the X-Men, the X-people, mutants, they use their powers for good, just like a superhero does, but they don't feel like superheroes. They feel like real people more — maybe that's the thing that sets it apart."
"I think the philosophy of it as well," Fassbender added. "The idea of alienation and misfits in society and how they struggle to be accepted and to find a place for them in society, I think that's a universal theme and why people across the world find them intriguing."
Regarding Fassbender's portrayal of the infamous mutant and future supervillain, we asked if the James Bond-ian aspects of his performance were intentional or based on the swingin' '60s-era setting of the film.
"I just saw it as an opportunity to do a really elaborate James Bond audition," he joked, which sent McAvoy into a mini-fit of giggles. "I just really exploited that fact really, and one always has to worry about the next job, that's the problem," he said with a smile.
"In all seriousness," he continued, "[director] Matthew [Vaughn] did say to me that the fact that it was set in the '60s, and this character, Erik, he had envisioned him as a James Bond from the past, perhaps the Sean Connery-type mold," Fassbender revealed. "I was like, 'That's interesting,' but it didn't really affect my portrayal. I just concentrated on what was in the comic books. The biography available in the comic books was so dense that I was spoiled for choice to go away and create this Machiavellian character."
Check out everything we've got on "X-Men: First Class."
